RISE: Tradition meets Expression Exhibition Opening

Downtown Dallas, Inc. and partners will debut a new exhibition ,”RISE // Tradition meets Expression,” featuring a curated collection of paintings, sculptures, mixed media and multimedia installations from local Asian-American Artists and Chong Chu, Professor of Art, College of Creative Arts, Entertainment and Design, Dallas College.

“RISE // Tradition meets Expression” debuts Friday, May 17, with an opening reception from 6:00-10:00 p.m. for this captivating exhibit with over 50 works from 11 Asian-American artists – Chong Chu, Minji Kang-Watrous, Tina Ngo, Jin-Ya Huang, Christina Hahn, Sean Lim, Usama Khalid, Sara Wong, Deepa Koshaley, Tammy Nguyen Lee, & Lynda Koshy, each from different heritage backgrounds. The community is invited to enjoy fine soju from Soju 101 and savor delectable light bites from the beloved restaurant Wild Salsa. Live music by DJ Kody Tang and Andy Yu Music.

Two documentaries will be showcased during opening night, “Operation Babylift: The Lost Children of Vietnam”, an award-winning documentary by Tammy Nguyen Lee uncovers the “lost” stories of adoptees from war who have become adults and “Your Long-Lost Asian Sister” by social practice artist Jin-Ya Huang invites viewers on an immigrant diaspora journey to discover from a place of curiosity.

“Rise // Tradition meets Expression” serves as a fusion of the past and the present, bridging together the rich cultural heritage and the dynamic spirit of modern artistic expression. Curated by Tina Ngo, art from all genres and mediums will be on view, including hand-crafted paintings, lambda prints, tape, colleges, Hanji paper, medal sculptures, textiles, ceramic, cardboard, and wood.

“RISE // Tradition meets Expression” will be on view from May 17 to June 14, 2024.
