Who Are Our Neighbors? is a public art and storytelling initiative to heal divides and create unity across the city of Dallas. An ongoing project led by Sharing Sacred Spaces, Inc. (SSS) in partnership with Thanks-Giving Foundation (TGF) and the Dallas Housing Authority (DHA), the initiative was selected as part of the 2024 Our Town grant program to receive funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. The project has also received generous funding from DHA and The Dallas Office of Arts and Culture (OAC).
The art initiative is highlighting eight local artists to create works that uplift and highlight exemplary community members who have crossed lines of difference and served to better the greater Dallas community. The public art and storytelling display will invite Dallas residents into creative visions of a healthier, more connected future based on kindness, caring, commitment to one another, and common humanity.
Join us on June 22nd, 2025, when the artworks along with their stories will be introduced at a public ceremony at Thanks-Giving Square in downtown Dallas! Artists and exemplars’ stories will inspire community, and create new possibiities for what it looks like to both be a neighbor, and to know our neighbors. Interactive exhibits will explore the theme of bridge-building and peacemaking.
Tickets are free, but please do register so that we know how many people to expect, and how many booklets and giveaways we need to bring. If you would like to buy one of the priced tickets, please know we appreciate every contribution!
If this initiative inspires you, and you’d like to meet the conveners, partners, artists, and exemplars in a more intimate gathering, please donate by buying a ticket for the private show before the public event. A special opportunity at the private gathering will be announced soon.
Following the public exhibit, the artworks will be distributed to permanent display locations across Dallas as beacons of hope to combat loneliness and division, and as inspiration and reasons for ongoing tours and gatherings.
