Downtown Dallas is poised for a historic run this summer, as thousands of workers return to offices, and thousands more are expected here for conventions, events, and vacations. Downtown Dallas, Inc. (DDI) President & CEO Kourtny Garrett took a deep dive on the state of Downtown and what’s to come with WFAA’s Jason Whitely and Jason Wheeler in the latest episode of their Y’all-itics podcast, just posted and available on Apple or wherever you get your podcasts.
This the 101st episode of Y’all-itics and the first to be recorded in-person since before the pandemic hit North Texas. It was taped at Catbird restaurant and bar, located inside Downtown’s newest redevelopment, The National, which is also the new home of DDI.
In this episode, you’ll learn about:
- The unprecedented growth that saw Downtown go from just a few hundred residents in the 1990s to more than 12,000—and growing—today.
- Our outlook on the return of scooters to Downtown Dallas streets and why they are an important mobility option.
- What makes a “complete neighborhood,” as described in our 360 Plan, and how much progress we’ve made in developing Downtown into a true neighborhood.
- The recent development of incredible new parks by Parks For Downtown Dallas, including West End Square this year, Pacific Plaza, and at least two more in the years ahead.
- Jason Wheeler’s passion for rollerblading – and why that makes Jason Whitely so darn jealous.
