Uplift Education and the Dallas Museum of Nature & Science are helping make John Crawford’s revitalization dreams for Downtown Dallas easier to achieve. As President and CEO of Downtown Dallas, Inc., Crawford sells prospective business tenants and residents on the idea that downtown is a vibrant center for living, entertainment, art and culture.
The recent opening of Laureate Preparatory School just blocks from the new site of the Museum of Nature & Science has provided another important cultural asset for Downtown. Laureate is the newest and most unique of the 17 charter schools operated by the nationally recognized Uplift Education in Dallas, Irving and Arlington. Laureate’s partnership with the Dallas Museum of Nature & Science establishes it as the city’s first museum charter school and emphasizes Uplift’s commitment to help fill the state’s critical shortage of students pursuing careers in science.
“Laureate Preparatory is a welcome addition to Downtown,” says Crawford. “It gives downtown an important educational outlet for families with young children. As the downtown population grows, the residential mix is changing from young, upwardly mobile singles to include more families with children.”
Laureate Prep, has opened with classes for K through 2nd grade, but will steadily expand to serve an estimated 480 students with classes through the 8th grade.
