July 27 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

Soar into history with Bruce A. Bleakley, former Museum Director of the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field, who will speak on the topic of Dallas history as it relates to aviation.  The journey begins at the Central Library’s 7th Floor Stone Room.

This program was generously funded by the Friends of the Dallas Public Library

Bruce Bleakley earned his private pilot’s license the summer after high school graduation.  During a career in aviation spanning six decades, including 20 years in the United States Air Force, he accumulated over 5,000 hours of flying time in numerous aircraft from light planes to supersonic jets to four-engine transports.  During the 1980s, he earned an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate from the FAA and a master’s degree in aviation technology from Arizona State University.  He later served as Executive Director of the San Diego Aerospace Museum prior to moving to Dallas in 2005 to become the Museum Director of the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field.  He retired from that position in 2017 and now spends his time writing and consulting on aviation matters.  Bleakley has written five books on North Texas aviation history, the most recent of which, Dallas Love Field, a history of the airport, was published by Arcadia Publishing in October 2023.
