Go Forth And Enjoy Downtown – Now That It’s Finally Bearable Out

on September 15, 2009 / by Downtown Dallas Inc. / in Blog Posts, Things To Do

In case you need some ideas – here’s a rundown of what’s already at your disposal and what’s coming up.

Patios.  Everyone loves them and Downtown’s got’em.  Many places along Main Street have opened their doors to the streets to allow for patio dining and drinking experiences.  Jeans and a t-shirt your style?  Head to City Tavern or Cafe Ravenna.  Need a great place for after work or pre-dinner?  Swirll has a sweet spot for you and a glass of wine waiting.  Looking for a place to see and be seen – or just people watch?  Head to Dallas Fish Market or Charlie Palmer at the Joule.  Just remember your sunglasses so they don’t notice.  If the Arts District is more your scene, One Arts Plaza is like a giant patio for your pleasure.  Dali, Fedora, Screen Door, and Jorge’s all offer up patio spots that overlook the gorgeous fountain and, sometimes, live music.  And just wait folks, that’s not all…but I’m sure you’re getting tired of reading.  Check out www.yourdspot.com for other hot patio spots in Uptown, West End, and all the other Districts. Also, keep your eyes peeled for a remastered and redesigned yourdspot.com that will have great interactive components.

Taste of the Fair.  The State Fair of Texas has plenty of traditions.  Fletcher’s Corn Dogs, pig races, and Big Tex are only a few.  We, here Downtown, have a couple of our own.  The State Fair of Texas Opening Day Parade kicks off the month long festival of fried food debauchery.  This year it will be around noon on September 25th.  As if that wasn’t enough to get you down on Main Street, DOWNTOWNDALLAS is going to throw in the temptation of fair food vendors on Pegasus Plaza that will give you treats like Fletcher’s corn dogs and funnel cakes from 11:00-1:30pm.  Be sure to bring your appetite and cash – one corn dog is never enough.

Opening of the AT&T Dallas Center for the Performing Arts.  Wait – what?? It’s finally opening?  Yes.  Yes it is.  And on October 18th you’ll be able to enjoy it (and the rest of the Arts District) in all its splendor, for FREE.  There will be activities for the whole family from 11:00am – 7:00pm and a great fireworks display to end the day.   This opening is making international waves and will be a landmark event to be a part of.  Come and see what all the buzz is about!

DART Green Line Scavenger Hunt.  DART’s Green Line is officially opening on September 14th!  We figured what better way to celebrate then send you on a mission to discover it’s stops.  On October 24th from 1:00 – 5:00pm, we will be hosting a scavenger hunt that will require you to take the Green Line from Deep Ellum clear through to Victory.  We’ll give you a day pass and list of clues to find Downtown landmarks, hidden gems, and other fun features of Downtown.   We’ll be sending out sign up information and other details soon!

City Lights and Music in the Park.  City Lights is Downtown’s official tree lighting ceremony and all around awesome holiday celebration.  It begins with a grand lighting of Neiman Marcus’s store front and an always dramatic entrance by Santa.  After oohing and ahhing over the windows, you can either head to Main Street Garden for family and pooch friendly activities or down to Pegasus Plaza where a beer garden, DJ, and games await.  Music in the Park is the grand celebration of the opening of Main Street Gardens.  Explore all the features of the park from the dog park to public art while you listen to great bands rock you into the night.  After it’s over, grab a bite in the Main Street District where bars and restaurants of all cuisines and sizes await you.

Finally, D Spot Hot Spots.  If you  haven’t signed up for it, you should.  You’ll receive the above and a whole lot more every two weeks.  It’s the inside scoops on hot new openings, promotions, and event going on across all 13 Districts.  PS: Other area publications use this for their events calendars so why not skip the middle man and go straight to the source?  Email marketing@downtowndallas.org to get on the list!
