Snowball Express Takes Over Victory Park

on December 17, 2010 / by Downtown Dallas Inc. / in Blog Posts, Parks and Public Space, Things To Do

The holidays can be a tough time for families who have suffered a terrible loss.  The people of Snowball Express know this first hand. They are a local non-profit who try to provide hope and new memories to the children of military fallen heroes who have died while on active duty since 9/11.

In December of 2006, nearly 900 family members from all across the country and world gathered in Southern California for an unforgettable holiday gathering. Kids and widows discovered they weren’t alone; and they found they weren’t forgotten. It was a total volunteer effort which came together in just a few months to create the largest all-expense-paid gathering for the families of our fallen warriors since 9/11.

Last year these kids came to Dallas for the first time. They had such a great time they decided to come back this year. It all started with a Texas-sized welcome at Victory Park.  The Snowball Express Parade of Gratitude was fit for only heroes. Santa Claus and Mrs Claus were there, along with a special recorded message from the Jonas Brothers.

The kids all stayed at the Sheraton Hotel in Downtown and were able to enjoy all of what Downtown Dallas has to offer during the holidays! We thank them for paying the ultimate sacrifice.  A special thank you to the countless volunteers and sponsors for making this holiday season better for these kids.

Happy Holidays!
